Application Letter
A. Definition
Application Letter is a letter of application, also known as a cover letter, is a document sent with your resume to provide additional information on your skills and experience.
B. Purpose
The application letter should let the employer know what position you are applying for, what makes you a strong candidate, why they should select you for an interview, and how you will follow up.
C. Types of Application Letter
- An application letter combined with curriculum vitae
In this way, the curriculum vitae includes the contents of the letter because its contents are combined. This method is also known as the combined model.
- An application letter separated from curriculum vitae
In this way the curriculum vitae is an appendix and this method is called a separate model.
In practice, the type that is often used is a separate model. Although it takes two jobs to make, this model is preferred by job applicants because the letter is not too long.

E. Elements of Application Letter
- Thesis
The letter section begins with a general statement (thesis), which is the part of the job application letter that presents an introduction to this general statement which serves as initial information related to the job to be applied for. In this section, applicants present information in the form of greetings, opening remarks and biodata.
- Argument
Arguments are the part of a job application letter that provides reasons for the job vacancy owner to accept the applicant. In this section, applicants present information in the form of photocopies of diplomas, curriculum vitae, and other information that supports the competence of applicants.
- Affirmation
The part of a application letter that serves as a closing, such as the applicant's expectations, closing greeting and name and signature.
