Sumpah Pemuda (The Youth Pledge) is a pledge of Indonesian youths who claim to shed one blood, the land of Indonesia, claim to be one nation, the Indonesian nation and uphold the language of unity, the Indonesian language. The pledge was the result of the decision of the Pemoeda-Pemoedi Meeting or the Second Youth Congress which was held on 27-28 October 1928. This congress was initiated by the Indonesian Student Association (PPPI) and was attended by youth organizations, such as Jong Java, Jong Sumatranen Bond, Jong Bataks Bond, Pemoeda Indonesia, Jong Islamieten Bond, Jong Celebes, Sekar Rukun, Jong Ambon, and Pemuda Betawi. On Sunday, October 28, 1928, the results of the congress decision were readout based on the developed ideas. The result of the decision is:
- We are sons and daughters of Indonesia, claimed to a blood bertumpah, homeland of Indonesia.
- We are sons and daughters of Indonesia, a nation that claims to be one, the people of Indonesia.
- We are sons and daughters of Indonesia, respect the language of unity, Indonesian Language
